The Bangor School Department is seeking a passionate and dedicated Assistant Athletic Director to join our team. This role is integral to fostering a vibrant and inclusive culture across our schools. The ideal candidate will possess a desire to build relationships, collaborate with diverse school and community partners, communicate clearly and effectively and have a passion for athletics.
Criteria for selection:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, sports management or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Maine teaching certificate or Athletic Administrator certification (preferred).
- Certified Athletic Administrator designation through NIAAA (preferred).
- CPR and First Aid certification (required).
- Previous experience in athletic administration, coaching or sports program coordination.
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including athletic management software and office proficiency skills.
- Knowledge of Maine Principals’ Association (MPA) regulations and Title IX compliance.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members.
- Commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive athletic culture.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Eligibility Management: Ensure athletes meet physical and academic requirements for participation.
- Event Supervision: Oversee and attend home athletic events for grades 6-12.
- Ticketing and Accounting: Manage ticket sales and maintain accurate financial records for athletic events.
- Administrative Support: Work collaboratively with the District Athletic Director to ensure all programs are functioning properly and share a common vision and goals that aligns with the core values of the Bangor School Department.
- Scheduling Coordination:
- Develop and manage transportation schedules.
- Coordinate field usage for practices and games.
- Work with coaches to schedule and attend practices and competitions.
- Middle Level Mentoring Support
- Oversees mentoring activities within the middle schools
- Develops supportive relationships with mentors and promotes supportive relationships between mentors and mentees
- Provides initial and on-going training and support activities/events for mentors and/or mentees
- Creates procedures for participant success
- Secures all parent consent forms and mentee applications
- Maintains records of attendance for mentees
- Data and Communication Management:
- Maintain athletic records in databases (games, rosters, schedules).
- Submit required information to the MPA (rosters, schedules, tournament details).
- Update and maintain the athletic department webpage for public access.
- Handle media relations and communicate athletic news and updates.
- Awards and Recognition: Coordinate and manage athletic awards for all seasons and year-end ceremonies.
- Facility Management: Implement policies for non-school use of athletic facilities and ensure communication with offsite venues.
- Fiscal Responsibility: Identify revenue opportunities, monitor costs, and develop the middle level athletics budget.
- Supervision and Evaluation:
- Participate in hiring, training, and evaluating site supervisors.
- Conduct in-season evaluations of coaches.
- Title IX Compliance: Monitor and ensure compliance with Title IX requirements.
- Community Engagement: Work with booster organizations on fundraising and event coordination.
- Policy Development: Assist in revising and implementing the Athletic Handbook.
- Emergency Response: Maintain readiness to handle emergencies during athletic events.
