Job Description

Millbrook School seeks a full-time math teacher, capable of teaching Algebra through Calculus, beginning in the 2025-2026 academic year. Millbrook's math department develops equally the skills of understanding and imagination and inspires students to see math as, fundamentally, a creative quest. Combining centuries-old methods of construction with compass and straight-edge and current online programs such as Desmos, teachers inspire students to ask, discover, and verify what they know and why. A bachelor's degree in math or a related field and strong communication skills are required. Coaching & teaching experience are preferred. In addition to teaching four sections (or the equivalent), this position includes coaching or supervising an afternoon program for two out of three seasons and serving as an advisor for up to six students. Full-time faculty members are also expected to participate in community service, evening responsibility, activities, assemblies and attend required meetings and workshops. The primary goal of a teaching faculty member is to ensure that each student achieves the highest potential possible . Housing may be provided and would bring with it residential life duties.

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS FOR FULL-TIME FACULTY MEMBERS

● Teaching: Teach four sections of a subject (or the equivalent)
● Coaching: Coach two seasons (or the equivalent)
● Community Service: Advise or assist in community service.
● Assemblies: Attend assemblies on designated mornings throughout the school year.
● Evening Responsibility: Faculty who live in housing provided by the school will have an evening responsibility.
● Activities: All faculty support our weekend programming for assigned weekends.
● Advising: All faculty are expected to have between one and six advisees per year, to communicate regularly with advisees' family, and to write three advisor letters for each over the course of the year. The advisor is the primary resource for a student and their parents or guardians, acts as a mentor, and shepherds the student's growth over their time at Millbrook. Advisors meet weekly with advisees on Tuesdays during alternating seated lunches and meeting times and schedule additional time as needed. Advisors must be in regular contact with the parents or guardians and keep them informed of their child's progress. Advisors should also communicate proactively with colleagues about their advisee.
● Miscellaneous: Share in all other boarding school responsibilities including extra help, assembly, formal dinner, department meetings, faculty meetings, orientation programs, award assemblies, trustee and parent weekends, workshops, and additional duties as determined. All faculty are also expected to assist with opening days, winter weekend, and commencement weekend.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

● Bachelor's degree in the subject being taught or a related field.
● Coaching and teaching experience preferred.
● Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
● Must have strong oral and written communication skills.
● Must have strong computer skills.
● Faculty members must have a clean & valid driver's license.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

● Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
● Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
● Must have the ability to work harmoniously and effectively with others.
● Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
● Must have patience, tact, and enthusiasm when dealing with personnel, students, and families.
● Must be proficient in the composition of written communication.

PHYSICAL & SENSORY REQUIREMENTS (with or without the aid of a mechanic device)

● Must function independently and be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
● Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
● Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
● Must be able to work in person, on campus.
● Must be flexible and willing to adapt to new technology, teaching methods and/or schedules.
● Must be able to physically teach, coach, advise, attend meetings & be an active member of residential life.
● Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move equipment, supplies, etc., without restrictions.
● If coaching, must be willing & able to travel & attend sporting events on nights and weekends.
● Faculty members must be able to operate a motor vehicle.

WORKING CONDITIONS

● Typical office and classroom conditions.
● Involved in residential life in the dining hall, chapel and dorms.
● Outdoor weather and/or indoor conditions while coaching.
● Bursts of heavy traffic, congestion, and teenage exuberance throughout the day.
